That they may be one

The state of Macedonia, into existence with the dismantling of Yugoslavia, is still precarious: burdened with the relics of socialism and a weak economy, the state suffers a low standard of living and high unemployment. The Macedonian Catholic Church, once again free, is flourishing. Although the fruits are abundant, the trials facing the Church have not yet been laid to rest. A new challenge has arisen, arguably subtler and of greater threat than that experienced under communism: Where faith was once brutally oppressed, today young Macedonians willingly abandon their faith drawn to the allure of materialism. Host Mark Riedemann interviews journalist and Balkan expert Ivan Cigic about the state of Macedonia and the fledgling Church there.
