Christians in Iran make up only 0.2% of the population in a 99% Muslim, country in which Islam is the state religion. The Church’s roots in Iran are very ancient, going back to the second century. The Church of St. Mary in northwestern Iran for example, is considered by some historians to be the second oldest church in Christendom after the Church of Bethlehem.
