To the infidels is how one of many threatening letters sent to Christians starts. We know your houses and your families. Leave our Muslim territory immediately. Otherwise we shall kill you all. Money and negotiation will not help you... One family who received such a letter did not give in to the demands to leave. Father and son were shot; the business went up in flames.

A recent UN Refugee Agency report states that 44% of the Iraqi refugees that enter Syria are Christians. The situation of Christians in Iraq has largely been ignored. The response is often dismissive: Everyone is suffering in Iraq. But this denies the fact that the plight of Christians is different, because they have no militias to protect them and thus become the constant targets of extortionists.
